BEAR Scotland’s Commitment

BEAR Scotland has been appointed by Transport Scotland, to manage and maintain the South East Trunk Road Units from 1st April 2007 for a term of 5 to 7 years.

Management functions include:

Co-ordinating all works on the trunk road network to minimise delays to the travelling public
Authorising road openings, scaffolding and skips
Carriageway, bridges, road lighting and footway inspections
Investigation, design and supervision of carriageway improvement and traffic safety schemes
Approving abnormal load movements
Liaison with the Local Authorities, Police, Statutory Undertakers and other organisations

Maintenance operations include:

Routine carriageway, bridges, safety barriers and road lighting repairs
Cyclic maintenance such as grass cutting and gully cleaning
Carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing and the provision of specialist surface treatments
Replacement of road markings and road signs
Emergency response
Winter precautionary salting and snow clearance
